WHERE THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION MEETS INDUSTRY 4.0

Bringing Smart Technology To The Iron Age

Internet of Things (IoT) is a growing market which is creeping into more and more industries around the world. IoT is the idea of having devices and machines connected to a unified network. Statistica estimated the market value of IoT in the United States in 2018 to be about 1.3 trillion dollars. Manufacturing is one of these industries which is being revolutionized by IoT services, this phenomenon is being called the 4th Industrial Revolution or “Industry 4.0”. “It includes cyber-physical systems, IoT, cloud computing and cognitive computing". The purpose of this literature review is to examine the current state of “Industry 4.0”. Potential solutions to manufacturing plants which do not utilize smart computing technology, and finally the limits of our system which aims to allow manufacturing plants to retrofit an existing factory with smart technology.

PROJECT PIECES

Breaking down the 4 main components

IMAGE SYSTEM

With a Raspberry Pi, we have been able to create a remote unit that allows the user to position the unit and camera in front of an analog gauge and plug it into a wall socket from there the device will take a picture at a specific interval and transmit the data via MQTT to the ARTIK 710

IMAGE ANALYSIS

With Open CV we have been able to take an image of a gauge and process it in such a way that we are able to extract out the reading of the Gauge.

CLOUD OPPERATIONS

All of your data all in one place. live update into amazon web service via an S3 bucket. your data will be visualized in Amazon QuickSight where trends will available to see how your readings change over time.

NOTIFICATION SYSTEM

With the utility of an SMS based text service, the device is able to send out notifications when your readings are out of range you will have more time to spend on the things that are actually important: your business.
